Translation

From morning until night, live in my heart, your temple, O Krishna Murari!

Takes these gifts: flower garlands, sandalwood—my love, my devotion. Accept them, O Delight of My Heart.

In life or in death I worship You with these offerings, Beautiful One, O Enchanter of the Heart!

Come, Son of Nanda, with the light of my love, I will offer You arati. Without You, the Yamuna river cascades from my eyes, O holder of Govardhana Hill!

I want to pass my life absorbed in Your song, in Your Praise, O Krsna Murari, Sri Krsna Murari!

Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare

Translation

Glory to the Sri-Krsna-Sankirtana, which cleanses years of dust from the heart and extinguishes the fire of material life, of repeated birth and death. It spreads the rays of the moon and is the life of all knowledge. It increases the ocean of bliss, and enables us to taste the nectar we are anxious for.

O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render every gift to all living beings. That is why You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krsna and Govinda. You have invested Your transcendental energies in these names and there are no rules for chanting them. O my Lord, out of kindness, You enable us to approach you through these names.

But I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.

Humbly chant the holy name of the Lord. Think yourself lower than the straw in the street, more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige. Be ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind, chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.

My respects to Banke Bihari, Who has a crown of peacock-feathers, a tilaka mark on the forehead and locks of hair hanging over his earring hoops.

My respects to Mohana, Who puts a flute to beautiful lips and plays, Who playfully entices His dear Radha.

This image captivates Mira—this image of Mohana, Who lifted Govardhana Mountain.

05 Ten Million Moons (Nitai Pada Kamala)

narottama boro dukhi, nitai more koro sukhi
rakho ranga-caranera pasa

Translation

The lotus feet of Lord Nityananda are a shelter that soothes with the light of millions of moons. Their shade brings solace to the universe. O brother, without Sri Nitai, approaching Radha-Krishna is impossible. Catch hold of the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda and join Their dance!

A person who has not established his relationship with Nityananda Prabhu has wasted his life and is no better than an animal. Because he has never uttered the holy name of Nityananda, he has been absorbed with so-called material “happiness.” What can his useless education and family tradition do to help him?

With false prestige and identification with the body, one is thinking, “Oh, what is Nityananda? What can He do for me? I don’t care.” But he is not accepting the truth. To approach Radha-Krishna, first achieve the mercy of Lord Nityananda. Grasp the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, which are not illusion; they are a fact. Engage His transcendental loving service and become transcendental. Catch the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda! I, Narottama dasa, am miserable and am praying to Lord Nityananda to make me blissful. My dear Lord, please keep me close to Your lotus feet!

06 Sleeping Soul (Jiv Jago)

by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur
Language: Bengali/English

Wake up! Time to wake up.
Come on now, wake up. Wake up, sleeping soul.

jiv jago, jiv jago, gauracanda bole
kota nidra jao maya pisacira kole

bhajibo boliya ese samsara- bhitare
bhuliya rohile tumi avidyara bhare

Now, you know you can’t sleep forever.
Shake off that darkness.
Rise and greet the morning light.
Wake up, sleeping soul!

tomare loite ami hoinu avatara
ami bina bandhu ara ke ache tomara

Can you hear me calling?
We’ve been sleeping too long in illusion, I said, illusion.
Oh no, no!

enechi ausadhi maya nasibaro lagi
hari nama maha mantra lao tumi magi

I see the golden sun. I see the golden sun.
(I see it rising)

bhaktivinoda prabhu carane pariya
sei hari nama mantra loilo magiya

Translation

Lord Gauranga is calling, “Wake up, sleeping souls! How long will you sleep in the lap of the witch called Maya? You were born in this world to worship the Lord, but you have forgotten…

I have descended just to save you. Other than Me, you have no true friend in this world.

I bring with me the medicine to wipe out the disease of illusion: the Maha Mantra of the Holy Names. Chant these names right away.

Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur says, “I fall at the Lord’s feet, begging Him to give me the Maha Mantra.”

07 Surrender

by Gaura Vani
Language: English

Twenty-five years of doing it my way, has brought me here.
The road behind me is littered with the ruins,
Decisions made in fear.
“But don’t be afraid,”
The Lord has so sweetly said,
And depending on his word,
I will surrender, surrender, surrender, surrender
(da da da da da da…)

My habitual desire to control, I now abandon.
And from my schemes so carefully conceived,
I release everyone.
And in humility,
Set you free from me.
My playing God is over.
Now I surrender, surrender, surrender, surrender
(da da da da da da…)

I pray to be a bow, upon my life, affix an arrow,
A dazzling weapon of Your will.
Like the poet says, “Let that string that sings be mine.”
And as a simple tool of your design.
Remember, remember
Pretender, pretender
Surrender, surrender

08 Where Was I Last Night? (Nami Danam Chi Manzil)

by Amir Khusrau
Language: Persian

Nami danam chi manzil bood shab jaay ki man boodam;
Baharsu raqs-e bismil bood shab jaay ki man boodam.
Pari paikar nigaar-e sarw qadde laala rukhsare;
Sarapa aafat-e dil bood shab jaay ki man boodam.
Khuda khud meer-e majlis bood andar laamakan Khusrau;
Muhammad shamm-e mehfil bood shab jaay ki man boodam.

Translation

I wonder what was the place where I was last night, all around me were half-slaughtered victims of love, tossing about in agony.
There was a nymph-like beloved with cypress-like form and tulip-like face, ruthlessly playing havoc with the hearts of the lovers.
God himself was the master of ceremonies in that heavenly court, oh Khusrau, where (the face of) the Prophet too was shedding light like a candle.

Translation

The divine couple, Sri Radha and Krishna are my life, my soul—my refuge. In a forest of small kadamba tress, on the bank of the Yamuna, I will seat the divine couple on a throne made of jewels. I will anoint Their dark and fair forms with sandalwood paste scented with cuya, and I will fan Them with a camara whisk. Oh, when will I behold Their moonlike faces?

I will string together garlands of malati flowers and place them around Their necks. Then I will offer tambula scented with camphor to Their lotus mouths. With the permission of all the sakhis, headed by Lalita and Visakha, I will serve the lotus feet of Radha and Krishna.

I, Narottama Dasa, the servant of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, longs for this service to the divine couple.
